Miss Clevenger shared some information about the turbulent life of Billie Holiday with Kindergarten through fifth grade.
The students then watched a clip from Holiday's only feature film, New Orleans. Unfortunately, many of Holiday's lines and scenes were changed or cut entirely due to racial and other social issues of the time (1947). However, the music of the movie still shines almost 70 years later, including the song "The Blues are Brewin'", which also featured fellow jazz legend Louis Armstrong.
