Kindergarten through fourth grade learned a little about Seeger's life and how he wrote folk music about his political views, in particular against war in the 1960's. He has also been active in recording and even creating folk music aimed at children. In music class, second graders learn about the book Abiyoyo, and the song that goes along with it - both of these were written by Pete Seeger himself. A video of Pete Seeger reading and singing this book on "Reading Rainbow" was then shown to the students (click the cover of the book to watch the video).

Fifth grade also learned about Seeger and his music, but they also learned specifically about his war protest song, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" The students read the lyrics and discussed how Seeger must have viewed the war based on this song. We then watched a video of him and his grandson singing "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" in concert.
